Homemade sci-fi thrills, or not
THE ETHEREAL PLANE is a sci-fi thriller made on an indie budget. It's literally a homemade effort with a few static cameras set up in households and parks in order to capture the little action that takes place. The story is about a guy who discovers a device that has the power to alter time itself. Attempts at thriller elements, in which he's pursued by sinister assassins, are quite laughable and feature non-existent menace. There's something endearing about the sheer earnestness of a film like this.
Steaming pile of dog feces
Unbelievably bad, as a fan of MST 3K, I have seen horrible movies, but this one is so horrible it must be an active attempt to troll the viewers. It's not possible to make something this bad without setting out to maximize the pain of the viewer. The video quality, sound, "acting", editing... ugh! If it's possible to weaponize film, this would be it. Remember that episode of Star Trek: TNG where Geordi is kidnapped and the Romulans force him to do their bidding by connecting to his visor ports and forcing him to watch the most wretched images imaginable? Yeah, I think this is what they were playing for him.
A Decent Low-Budget "B" Indie Film With A Good Story
This movie will not rival a box office theater release. It is a "B" movie. Go in thinking that you are watching a college project film, and you will have the correct mindset for watching this movie. If you could sit through "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", which I did several times, this will be an easy watch for you. Pay attention to the story line, and you will be entertained as the story takes you on its journey. Filmed in 2004, this movie comes with the period CRT computers one would expect. The gadget that is the center of attention in the story is basic with just a knob and no lights. The special effects are decent for a 2004 film. You will either like this film, or you won't. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed reading the humor in the credits.
