I HAVE OVER 400 REVIEWS OF "CHRISTMAS RELATED FILMS & SPECIALS" WHEN ITS A POSITIVE THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE PRODUCTION. NOW I HAVE NO AGENDA! I REVIEW MOVIES & SPECIALS AS A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT I HAVE SEEN! I HAVE DISCOVERED MANY GEMS IN MY QUEST TO SEE AS MANY " C H R I S T M A S " MOVIES AS I CAN. Now Someone keeps reporting my reviews. I guess they are jealous because I do tell the truth. I want to point out that I never make snide remarks about actors weight or real life sexual orientation. If there acting is terrible or limited "I talk about that". If a story is bad "I will mention that" So why am I being "picked on"? IMDB? When one of my reviews gets deleted IMDB will not even tell me what someone found offensive. Well on to this review. This film is about people being "solo". New girl at school trying to fit in. There is the ice queen of the school who feels she is on her own after her mother ran out on her & her dad. Then there is the two "Single Parents" trying to figure everything. Being "Solo" at Christmas isn't easy for various reasons. Now when the single parents stumble into the possibility of love for Christmas, they discover that their daughters are embroiled in a nasty rivalry at school. When the rivalry gets out of control, everyone comes clean about where they are in life. Most of all nobody is criticized for "Sharing Their Feelings". Well Done.
Deeper than a simple Christmas Romance
This movie has elements in common with a few other Christmas movies revolving around a rivalry and a romance, but it goes deeper than the others I can think of. I'm glad to see the writers didn't try to check off every possible Christmas tradition to fill screen time, but instead stayed focused on the issues related to the theme of the movie. This movie makes it clear fairly quickly that the "villain" is anything but and that she too is a person in need. At the same time it deals with bullying of a new student, although it doesn't offer any overly simplistic solutions. Like so many Christmas movies, it wraps up too many things a little too neatly, and uses an unbelievably courageous teen to help it along, but what else would we expect? Still it is an UPlifting movie with excellent family values.
A Song for Christmas
Christmas Solo has two stories in one. Jennifer is a vet who has moved to a small town with her teenage daughter Charlotte from San Francisco. Jennifer ends up tussling with Nate over some fancy Christmas decorations the only ones left in the store as no one in these small towns has heard of ebay or Amazon. However both find romance with each other but there is a fly in the ointment. Nate also has a teenage daughter Melissa and she is not happy that Charlotte has nabbed the solo at the school Christmas concert. Melissa has turned mean girl on Charlotte including having her house daubed with graffiti. This is a nice enough Christmas film, maybe it needed a few more better songs but the ending was a little bit too sweet and convenient. Obviously the police in these small towns are not too hot on pursuing people for criminal damage to private property.
