Good Idea Lost In Transition
I watched this movie to see what makes Australia's number 1 football fan such a legend. The real story is continually interrupted with comedy segments with Joffa playing 'fictional' characters. Why? I rented the DVD reasonably expecting an insight into how the Fan of the Century achieved legendary status. Unfortunately nothing was revealed. His background, lifetime career, with helping the homeless needed expanding. However 'show time' at real football events was good fare. Considering the club of his passion is the most 'love to hate' in the Australian football league, even with 80,000 members, there are another 700,000 plus members combined in other clubs, who begrudgingly respect Joffa's cult status. The best part of live television is when you get the chance to laugh when his team is down and the camera zooms on Joffa or the club president or alternatively 'boos' when Joffa rallies the fans as they get up before the count of ten. The reported $200,000 budget would have been better invested into a story board and a do-co style project that co-starred with equal billing Joffa, and Collingwood, the club we love to hate. That sort of project, with the Clubs investment or backing from the league would have guaranteed a winner. It would have been the movie we all hate to watch but would be drawn in and a 'must have' DVD for the brainless Collingwood fans, their peers and descendants. Please go back and do it all again. Current mark 4 out of 10.
