Robin DeMarco does a fine acting job, but Jan Van Sickle does not. And the writing is mediocre. The central relationship doesn't develop, it just happens. DeMarco makes a valiant effort to pull it off, but Van Sickle doesn't meet her even 1/4 of the way, and the writing is too weak to lift this bird out of the corn. Real academics, especially scientists, will be shaking their heads twenty minutes into this movie. An academic scientist is going to get the money from a federal or private foundation grant, not "the university," and certainly not from a loan shark... Not to mention that, in real life, this guy would be way too smart for that. When he gets in trouble and says, "I should have known...," all one can think is: well, as an Ivy League physicist in quantum mechanics, you certainly WOULD have... The only reason I watched--aside from being a sucker for this sort of sci-fi movie--was because of the 7.7 score here on IMDb, which is usually a lock for a satisfying experience. (I can't remember the last time it wasn't.) Only AFTER I watched, I checked and discovered that there were only 96 votes. I should have checked first but I've never been fooled that way before. I won't make that mistake again on an unfamiliar title. But then I have to wonder WHO ARE THOSE 96 people...???

  • Not Even a Real Movie But Rather a TV Thing...

Okay so the first thing you'll probably notice about this film is that it has a cool summary/plot. BUT as soon as you start watching it you start realizing "hold on here, wait a minute! This isn't a real movie, is it?!?" Well that's because it's not. It's more of a Hallmark Channel made for TV movie. Don't get me wrong... It still manages to intrigue along the way IF you can hang on during a movie that is at times so bad that you wonder if it might not be a joke that someone is pulling on you. I mean, YES it is truly THAT BAD. The acting is ridiculous. The dialog is even worse. It's just awful. But again, it almost kept me going... Only took me about five separate viewings to finish it, but i did eventually finish it. ANd guess what? It ends exactly as you guess it's going to from the very first minute.

Brian has a problem. Well, actually, he has a couple of problems. For one thing, he used to be a professor of quantum physics and now he teaches at a community college. Another problem is that he owes a bad guy a lot of money and two goons have showed up demanding payment in full or else. Brian could probably pay his debt back if he could get a venture capitalist to fund his invention, a device he calls "amzing-ish." The problem is that the invention--a transporter machine (yes, like the ones in STAR TREK) is broken and he doesn't know how to fix it. Truth to tell, he doesn't really know what's wrong with it. But Brian isn't in this dilemma alone. To his great surprise, the lovely Shelly has entered his life at the same time as all this trouble, and Shelly is going to make all the difference. This is a smart and sweet movie that offers great characters and solid performances.

  • Quirky Indie film short on craft, big on story.

The moment I saw the titles, I wasn't expecting too much. There are a lot of things in this film that reek of low budget and inferior craftsmanship. The acting is adequate, although strained at times. The special effects are sufficient, though not mind-blowing by any means. There are times when the story drags a little. All of that said, though, there are some bright spots. Robin DeMarco is really strong as the love interest, and the loan shark's thugs are pretty good, too, if not a little stereotyped. What really shines here is the story. In the end, it turns out to be more than you expected and there is a pretty decent twist a the end that I honestly didn't see coming. This isn't a big-budget sci-fi, but the film makers did a good job of making a compelling story and entertaining film with what they had. It's definitely worth the watch if you know what your going into.

  • Pleasant surprise......

You can tell this is a low-budget film immediately; they spent only $30,000 making it. But even tho I almost turned it off in the beginning....I kept watching, and watching. Ends up being a sweet little movie! It's great when just a small handful of people and for less money than my Honda cost can create something worth watching in this day and age.
