Other days will come
Alicia, a single mother, is a teacher at a Madrid high school. She has a young daughter, Vega, who is in her class. She also has a widower father who is beginning to show signs of dementia. Her only escape seems to be going to chat rooms where she can say whatever she wants. When she hooks up with a user named Zak, she becomes intrigued. Little prepares her for what she is about to discover: Zak is a teenager who seems to know a lot about sex, judging by the way he chats on line. Alicia makes the mistake of meeting Zak. They fall into a steamy sexual relationship. When she tells him she will not see him again, he declares he will kill himself. Zak, whose real name is Javier, fulfills his claim and commits suicide. His single father donates the organs to patients that need them. Little prepares Luis to meet Vega, whose best friend has been the recipient of Luis' generosity. She invites him to come to a celebration at her home, which he accepts. Luis is introduced to Alicia, and a mutual attraction ensues. Of course, nothing prepares him for the shock of finding out who was the person who was on line chatting with his son before his death! "Otros dias vendran", directed by Eduard Cortes, is a character study of people in today's Spanish society with their complex lives. Mr. Cortes who co-wrote the screen play with Piti Espanol gives us a glimpse at a complicated web in human relations. The best excuse for watching this film is Cecilia Roth, an actress that has an intelligent way of capturing the character she is playing at the moment. She is nicely matched by Antonio Resines, another actor who has been in a lot of films as a supporting player and now shows he is worthy of more starring roles. Also in the film veteran Fernando Guillen, who is seen as Alicia's father. Nadia de Santiago and Nacho Aldeguer have some good moments.
Life after making mistakes
Very good movie. Intelligent, well written and acted. About common people making mistakes and surviving them with eventually time to reflect that life is worth living. Not a boring lecture: just life as common as it is, but always verging on situations that can destroy it if an effort is not made to go on. The pace is a metaphor of the pace of daily life, not fast not slow. The acting is excellent including the teenage actors, all of them. Cecilia Roth is a veteran thus she delivers, always. Antonio Resines an excellent, character actor, as the grieving father. The contrast between the father figures is part of a sub-theme: absent-fathers (that of the teenage girl,) distant- fathers (that of Alicia,)dedicated-fathers (that of Zak-Javi and of the sick girl.) I recommend this movie.
