Scrooge in the Hood (2011) Reviews

  • Fantastically Funny

THis independent film, from Boston Film Family, was a delightfully raunchy change from the normal Christmas movies we are all so used to. George Raynor as Scrooge was an excellent choice. He brings such likability into a character that we should all despise. Seregon O'Dassey puts a twist on the ghost of Christmas past with her bourbon soaked hi-jinx ( yes folks, the ghost of Christmas past is all liquored up!!!) And Rick Chandler stands quiet(not really) as the Grim Reaper....the ghost of Christmas yet to come...I give this 10 of 10 as far as independent films go. It is a non stop, laugh fest......def worth the watch.....if you are looking for a warm and fuzzy Christmas flick...you are looking in the wrong place...if you want lots of laughs, blood, and hot chicks.....you have come to the right place!!!!

  • Awful indie comedy

SILENT NIGHT, DEAD NIGHT is an awful indie comedy reworking of that Dickens classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL, given a new gangster vibe and plenty of on-street cred. Instead of the Victorian characters, this modern-day variant has an urban setting and a cast of gangsters. The viewer is exposed to flat and monotonous line delivery mixed with plenty of unfunny jokes and a grindhouse-wannabe feel. It's dead in the water from the beginning.

I watch a lot of low quality indie movies so I probably have a higher tolerance than others for what is passable. Wish it was a little shorter some scenes dragged on and a lot of it fell flat. I guess it was going for a grind house feel now that I look back on it but didn't really get that watching it. Overall if you don't mind indie then this was just ok watch it if you want.

  • Hysterical - A Perfect Christmas Present!

    allisonauld2017-12-25

My mother and father and I came across this movie watched it on Christmas Eve. What a find! Someone has finally found a way to make the boring "A Christmas Carol" trope interesting again. The movie is presented in the "grindhouse" style which means scantily-clad women of ill-repute, gratuitous violence and profanity - oh, so much profanity. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard and I never found Dickens so enjoyable. Also, it is the ideal antidote for those who are about to go ballistic if they hear "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" one more time. Any movie that has a character describe Tiny Tim's house as a place of "mental midgets and physical fuck-ups" has my undying love. It's a treat, soon to become a family tradition. Take it for what it is - the "anti" Christmas Carol - and you'll really enjoy it. Support indie cinema and Happy Holidays!!

  • A Totally Different Adaption

    boblevoy2013-12-09

Scrooge in the Hood is a different take on the Charles Dickens classic In this adaption. Scrooge is not a money lender like in all of the other adaptations. This one runs a prostitute business and the Jewish Mafia is trying to take over. This film is definitely not for children. There are the ghosts of past present and future, but there is a lot of language and sex jokes in this one. Richard Chandler is director and writer of this film. I got a good laugh out of this one. Great performances by George Raynor, Tina Krause, and Peter Morse. Richard Chandler who wrote and directed this film appears as the Ghost of Christmas Future. One thing is Richard having Tiny Tim as an adult instead of a child. Looking forward to seeing more work by this writer/director.
