MMA Fighter Gordon Shell is heading into the ring one last time despite a career ending heart condition. Defying his doctor's orders Gordon will enter the cage to fight for something he believes in; the rescuing of abandoned and abused dogs used in dog fighting. Gordon trains, fights and saves dogs which has garnered him the nickname "The Dog Fighter". We follow him from the gym, to the streets and into the ring where he will fight so they don't have to. This is his story.

An Uplifting Watch on a Difficult Subject
I've become familiar with Gordon Shell on matters of animal rights and abuse awareness. The movie is both biographical in that you learn plenty about Gordon as a person, and documentary as it speaks to his fighting and work towards ending dog fighting alongside the Michigan Humane Society. Detaching myself from that and being objective, I learned a considerable amount about what goes in to fight preparation as well as what a humane society officer does as part of their job. It was interesting to see the drama unfolding - the doctor declining to approve Gordon's fight, Gordon trying to make weight, and the effect this whole process had on Gordon's marriage. Even just watching his body transform in advance of this process is something special. But at no point does the movie become so personal that you lose track of why he's doing all this. Every so often, imagery of dogs fighting for just moments will flash on screen to remind you this is the real battle. The movie does an excellent job of keeping itself focused on its topic while still including useful supplemental footage to support those themes. I'm impressed that someone with such a cavalier attitude about dog fighting was available as an opponent, creating a perfect enemy to root against. However, at no point did Gordon's humanity waiver during the course of the fight. While one of the takeaways is "this man is a hero" his deflection back to the dogs ensures that's the image you're left with, and their fight still needs to be won.
Loved the movie, great message
Loved the final version of The Dog Fighter Movie. A powerful message to help bring awareness to the issue of animal abuse thru dog fighting in the city of Detroit. please watch and share!!!!! Even if you are not a fan of MMA you will enjoy the message of the movie. I hope this will inspire others to make a change and fight for what they believe in. This is a docudrama and 100% true, you will cry but you will also feel inspired by the message and passion. Please take a moment to watch the film and write a review. proceeds from the film help support the fight for the dogs. The director and editor captured the story perfectly, very well shot, very well edited, flows well and never gets stale. If you watch one docudrama this year please make this the one then share with your friends and family.
Dog Fighter
This is such a wonderful tribute to all the dogs who have had no voice until people like Gordon came along. I am so grateful that there are still kind human beings out there that speak for all the animals that have no voice. I also think this movie will help educate people on the dog fighting issue. Society blames the animals (breed) and we do not hold human beings accountable. Dogs don't have a choice to fight, they are made to by greedy people. People like Gordon have a choice before they enter the cage/arena. Animals get no say. I have volunteered at shelters and can personally say that animals just want love. Mankind should learn how to love unconditionally love like animals do. Thank you Gordon for all you do. A true HERO! 2 Thumbs up!!! Great work.
Dog Fighting has to stop. This is a new beginning
I seen this movie and cried part of the way thru it. It was very emotional as I cannot stand to see abuse in any form to an animal. They don't deserve what us horrible humans have done to them. (The bad humans) I believe all dog fighting and abusers should be put on a blacklist or like a registry so people can watch out for them and what they may be doing in the future. We have to stop the killing and torturing and dogs killing one another and the people behind it. So many dogs I see in shelters that have been torn apart or a shovel stuck thru there head. Just horrific things.It breaks me heart. Laws need to change. Gordon, your a hero in my eyes for bringing awareness to this problem in our country and for sacrificing yourself to help make a difference. Being a pit bull owner myself, I am very defensive about people slamming breeds. It is what the owners have trained them to do. The dog is only doing what he is told to do. Under normal conditions, when dogs attack..they attack for two reasons..food and territory. Territory is a wide scope. But people that hurt these animals..are horrible people and need to be brought to justice with harsh penalties. Gordon keep up the good work and I support you 100%.

The Dog Fighter offers a fascinating look at the world of dog fighting and dog rescues. It's inspiring and thought-provoking and at the end you can't help but want to do whatever you can in your own community to help pets who need it the most. This movie highlights the dedication and passion one Gordon Shell has for saving these dogs used in dog fights and rescuing any dog who's been subjected to neglectful or abusive situations. This movie will change your life. You will never again see dogs and abuse and neglect reports on the news the same way. This movie should be mandatory viewing for anyone who wishes to teach anyone about compassion, dedication, and absolute love. I highly recommend this movie to everyone.
