A historical co-production with fairy tale elements. It concentrates on Tomás (Brano Holicek), a 14-year-old boy who lives beneath the castle of the powerful Lord Balador (Juraj Kukura). The boy is able to communicate with animals, and he tries to obtain the royal falcon - a symbol of freedom and faith. He also falls in love with Balador's daughter Formina (Klára Jandová), a girl who is to be married off against her will.

Wholesome family entertainment set in the middle ages.
"Thomas the Falconer" is a nice family movie about a boy (Brano Holicek), a falcon, a prince, a princess and a nasty man who gets his come-uppance. It's gloriously filmed in the mountains of Slovakia. The DVD mastering is not quite up to Hollywood standards but not too bad. There are English subtitles. The movie itself is much better than many a Hollywood production being free of tat and razzmatazz.
