Xiao ti qing (2003) Reviews
A Masterpiece
Excellent movie of human love and love of classical violin. The plot and acting is superb. I highly recommend viewing this movie. Excellent facial expression and body language by the actors that tells the story without understanding the spoken language. Choice of music used was a plus. Interesting historic note, classical music and western music was banned during the Cultural Revolution of Chairman Mao. Musicians had to learn and practice this music in secret and underground. It is an inspiration to know that love is a driving force to succeed and accomplish in the face of obstacles and challenge. I've seen it twice. Once during vacation on a tour bus and on the Asian Entertainment Channel.
Not bad for the music lovers
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: the Violin. The story is just all right, nothing extraordinary, but not extremely lame either, at least for a Chinese movie. What attracts me the most is the music. I guess the protagonists (with the exception of Ms. Jun Wu) must be played by professional musicians instead of actors or actresses, but even for actresses, their music talents are really not that bad, at least it was what appeared to be. Even though I am by no meaning a musical professional, but even for an amateur like me, this movie is not bad for that it makes the audience appreciate music, which was the only thing I was attracted to this movie.
