Sean Peyton is the heir to the fortune amassed by his father, William Peyton Jr., through his real estate development company, Peyton Enterprises. Currently unemployed Sean has been pressured by William, with who he has a strained relationship, both to join the business and to foster a romantic relationship with Candice, the daughter of a competitor, to build a development conglomerate for the future, neither in which Sean has an interest. So William gives him an ultimatum: find a job within a week and stick with it, or else he has to join the company or risk being cut off entirely, the cushy privileged life which Sean has enjoyed. Concurrently, Sean meets Allison Johnson, a law student by day, and food truck assistant and community volunteer/activist by "night". One of Allison's passions in that latter category is to stop ...

Secret Millionaire (2018) Reviews

  • Very watchable and pleasant way to spend an evening

Steve Lund is good as Sean Payton, the son of a millionaire businessman trying for the last 10 years to avoid working for his forceful businessman father. Michael Kopsa is excellent in this role and when people call him Mr Payton, it is as if they wouldn't dare to call him William to his face. Siobhan Williams plays protestor Alisson Johnson, who is active against the Paytons' scheme to level a park. Yes, she comes over well as being bruised and vulnerable, but I really struggled to find any chemistry between her and Sean. Perhaps it is because he is much taller than her, making interactions difficult? On the other hand, Elise Gatien is convincing as the predatory female Candice, with matching body language showing she finds Sean attractive. There is a nice little twist near the end when we find out what her true motives are. A distraction to the main flow of the plot is Alisson's housemate Beth (played by Allie Bertram) trying to make her mind up between the reliable Caden (played by Adam DiMarco) and the charming Pascal (played by Ben Sullivan). I found Jaime Callica as Sean's best friend Jared to come over as not being serious enough for someone like Sean. Did like the scene where Alisson's boss Antonia (played by Karen Holness) lays into Sean. Yes, bosses do that. However, for me, the best part of the film is the last 10 minutes where the father-son relationship and their motivations are explored, which brings the various strands of the film neatly together. Overall, a very watchable and pleasant Hallmark film.

  • an easy watch

An ok film, and the leads were easy on the eye. However, the actor playing Jared overacted to the extreme. Clearly hasn't learned the art of 'less is more'.

  • Easy Going light enjoyable plot

It was fairly predictable, but enjoyable to watch. I liked the clean honesty people sought. The way the Dad and Son relationship turned more feeling expressive, and in the end just telling the plain truth in what seemed difficult, wasn't so hard after all.

  • Surprised that I somehow managed to watch this entire movie

The plot of this film is very lacking with characters that have no chemistry. I can tell that the actors are trying very hard, but the script is merely restricting them with cliche lines. A lot of illogicality runs in this film as well. For example, who on earth will immediately start doing romantic things (i.e, playing favorite music, making favorite food) to attract one's attention when you just met? And why would you have a small, last-minute group talk in the middle of the parking lot where you're about to carry out a mission? Attempts to hype up the tension are at best lame. The attempts at humor also seem to fail flat. At the end, you simply end up with characters with empty expressions.

  • Nothing special

There isn't that much that this movie adds to the rom com Hallmark stable. The save the park thing is a bit of a much ado about nothing. It's not quite deja by bit it all feels vaguely familiar. The secretly wealthy man pretends to be not wealthy and falls for a girl saving a park and works in a food truck. The cast is likeable and the lead actress reminds of Jessica Alba. The inevitability reveal of his wealth feels a bit empty. And the conclusion is underwhelming.
